Business coaching, leadership development and organizational health for construction companies, contractors, home builders and specialty trades. Engineer-led. Field-aware. In-person in Virginia, West Virginia and Maryland. Remote anywhere.

Most business coaches have never been on a jobsite. They have never read a set of plans. They have never stood in a trailer at six a.m. with a foreman who did not show and a crew that needs to bill hours. We have.

Ted Williamson spent nearly thirty years at Caterpillar before building a coaching practice. He knows construction equipment. He knows construction financials. He knows what it looks like when a field lead is too valuable to promote and too tired to stay. We coach owners and leadership teams through exactly that terrain.

A Coach Who Speaks Contractor

Construction is not like other businesses. Your P&L is not a product-company P&L. Your people are not a tech-company team. Your margin shows up six months after the bid.

The coaching industry is full of MBAs who run the same playbook for a SaaS company, a law firm and a roofing outfit. That playbook does not work on a jobsite. Our work starts with the reality of what you actually do. Then we add the structure that lets you scale it.

Who We Work With

Our construction clients tend to look like this:

  • General contractors, specialty contractors and home builders, typically $3M to $50M in revenue
  • Ten to one hundred employees, often with a mix of office and field
  • Owners who grew the company from the truck, the tools or the drafting table
  • Leadership teams that now include a CFO or controller, an ops leader and a project-management layer that did not exist five years ago
  • Family-owned companies navigating a generational handoff

We work across trades. Electrical. Plumbing. HVAC. Concrete. Roofing. Framing. Finish. Site work. Excavation. Remodeling. Home building.

What Breaks at Thirty Employees

Most construction businesses hit a wall somewhere between twenty and fifty employees. The wall looks like this:

  • Every decision still comes to the owner
  • Project managers are overwhelmed but cannot articulate why
  • Estimators and PMs blame each other for margin fade
  • Field crews feel disconnected from office priorities
  • The owner is the bottleneck. The owner is also the rainmaker. The owner is tired.

That is a leadership problem. Not a construction problem. It is solvable.

How We Help

  • Business coaching and leadership development. One-on-one coaching for owners. Team-level coaching for leadership groups. We work on the conversations that are not happening, the expectations that are not clear and the accountability that keeps sliding off. We build the leadership muscle your company needs to run without you in every meeting.
  • Organizational health. We help you design the rhythms a construction business needs to stay healthy: the weekly meeting pulse, the quarterly planning cycle, the scorecards that tell you something is off before the client tells you. This work compounds. Teams that run healthy take on more complex projects. Teams that do not, do not.
  • Professional EOS® Implementer services. Ted is a Professional EOS® Implementer. Many of our construction clients run their business on the EOS® process. For full information on the EOS® process and how a Ted-led engagement works, visit his EOS Worldwide® microsite at https://www.eosworldwide.com/ted-williamson.

Built for the Field

We work the way construction companies work. Early meetings if you need them. On-site sessions at your shop or jobsite trailer. Tools and language that land with a foreman as well as a CFO. No slide decks designed for consultants. Real conversations designed for operators.

Ted’s engineering background means he can read your plans. His Caterpillar background means he understands your equipment, your fleet and your field economics. His coaching work means he can translate all of that into a leadership conversation with your ops manager.

Where We Work

In-person work with construction companies concentrates in three regions:

  • Eastern Panhandle West Virginia. Berkeley, Jefferson and Morgan counties, plus statewide remote.
  • Western Maryland. Frederick, Washington, Allegany and Garrett counties.
  • Northern Virginia. Loudoun, Fairfax, Prince William and surrounding counties.

Virtual engagements run nationwide. Construction clients outside the three regions work with us on video with periodic in-person sessions where the engagement warrants travel.

Start With a 90-Minute Meeting. It Is Free.

The 90-Minute Meeting is the front door. You bring your leadership team (or come solo if you are early-stage). We walk you through how we work, whether it is a fit and what it would look like to engage. No sales pitch. No pressure. If it is not a fit, you will know, and so will we.

Or email info@gystbusinesscoaching.com with a few sentences about your company and where you are stuck.
